Los Retros, aka Mauri Tapia, has recently been brought to our attention following the release of his impressive EP Everlasting, released last year. Mauri formulated his sound based on Central and South American soft-rock and alternative pop from the 70s and 80s. At only 19 years old, he could be the reincarnation of any one of the pioneers of popular soul music. Following on from last year's EP, Los Retros has dropped a new single 'It's Got to Be You', with a warm sound reminiscent of 70s R&B artists like The Emotions at the heart of the track. Lo-fi drums and a lazy bass intertwine with flossy synths and emotive guitar hits. Mauri's vocals are effortlessly soulful, residing in the same world as the soul greats like Shuggie Otis and Gil Scott Heron.
